The NGO “Association of Young Innovators and Inventors of Montenegro” is pleased to announce that the FIRST LEGO League Challenge was successfully held on Friday, 9 February 2024, at “Novka Ubović” Primary School. The event was organised in cooperation with our Slovenian partner, the institute “Super Glavce”.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge (FLL) is a programme that introduces children aged 9 to 16 to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through fun and exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain experience solving real-world problems and, together with their teachers, help build a better future.

This year’s competition brought together 10 teams from four Montenegrin municipalities. FLL focuses on four disciplines:

  1. Core Values – judges look at how participants applied the core values in everything they do, during preparation and at the competition. Children develop teamwork, innovation, research skills and more.
  2. Robot Game – children build and program their robot and plan the missions it will complete. Besides having fun, they learn teamwork and programming, and compete in three matches to score as many points as possible.
  3. Robot Design – children present their robot and explain the decisions behind its design, programming and behaviour in relation to the code.
  4. Innovation Project – teams present their innovation projects on the season’s theme, building communication, presentation and public speaking skills. Judges assess how the idea was developed and tested, and how clearly the solution is presented.

This season, titled “MASTERPIECE 2023/2024”, teams worked not only on their robot solutions but also on innovative ways to create and share art around the world. The best-placed team, KlariksMAX, earned a place at the FIRST LEGO League Challenge Final Adria, to be held on 16 March 2024 in Puconci, Slovenia.

  • The overall winner and FIRST LEGO League Challenge Montenegro champion is team KlariksMAX from “Dr Dragiša Ivanović” Primary School.
  • The team with the highest score and winner of the Robot Game award is Phoenix from “Štampar Makarije” Primary School.
  • The best innovation project on the MASTERPIECE theme was delivered by Phoenix from “Štampar Makarije” Primary School, winner of the Innovation Project award.
  • The Robot Design award went to Game Shakers from “Kekec” Primary School.
  • The best core values were shown by MonteBot from “Pavle Rovinski” Primary School, winner of the Core Values award.

This competition gives young talents the opportunity to develop their skills and passion for STEM and to contribute to innovations that will shape the future.

A great team of referees and judges had their hands full. The judges were:

  • Innovation Project: Goran Šuković (Logate) and Nikola Perović (Montenegro Space Research)
  • Robot Design: Ognjen Mijanović (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UCG) and Dejan Babić (UDG)
  • Core Values: Jovana Vulić (Digitalizuj.me) and Jasna Zeković (PRONA)
  • Judge Advisor: Nikoleta Vukčević (Five Group)

The Robot Game referees were Rade Grujičić (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UCG), Luka Laković (UDG), Vasilije Vujović (NeurobotX) and Aleksa Čapunović (former competitor), with Zoja Šćekić (UDG) as head referee.

The general sponsors of the FIRST LEGO League Challenge in Montenegro are Five Group and NeurobotX, and the programme is also supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro.
